When anyone speaks about Apple Blossom there is always a burst of pride that overwhelms me. In 1975 my father, Mike Luby proudly served as The President that year. Susan Ford was Queen and her father President Ford accompanied his daughter where he would crown her Queen Shenandoah XLVIII. It was a spectacular lineup that year. Bob Hope was Grand Marshall, Redskin stars Joe Theisman and Larry Brown, Randy White of the Dallas Cowboys, and Mickey Mouse. I was fortunate enough to escort Mickey Mouse to the Queen’s Ball which was pretty cool for a 16-year-old.
The heart-pounding moment for me is when The Presidential helicopter landed and The President shaking hands with my father. It was a great honor to share at that moment. That year still holds the record for the largest number of attendees. In 1993 my youngest child Matthew Seibert served on the Queen’s Court as a Page. I hold many treasured memories from my childhood to the present. I can honestly say my father enjoyed working with all festival committee members and he loved the citizens of Winchester.
