My Dad died 11 years ago but in the times he would come to visit me here in Winchester as we drove around town he would say “ I was in the Queen’s Court during Apple Blossom when I was little”. Your Grandmother made the outfits we wore (she was a good seamstress). Not thinking or asking much more of it, life went on…then Dad died. I started researching to see if he really was in the pageant. I didn’t know what year but started looking in the 1930s.
I went to the archives at Handley and started looking through all the early photos they had when suddenly there was a picture of a 5-year-old little blond hair boy! I recognized him even at an early age.
Since that time I have found a few more pictures of the 1930 Shenandoah Apple Blossom that he was in, some on E-bay. I have always regretted not doing it sooner when he was still alive. He would have been so tickled…Love you Dad.
