Harvey Grant was born July 4th, 1965, in Augusta, Georgia, along with his identical twin brother, Horace Grant. After a stellar high school career in Sparta, Georgia, Harvey went to Clemson University in1984 along with his brother. After a year at Clemson, Harvey decided to strike out on his own. He went to Independence Community College for a year; and, then transferred to the University of Oklahoma. His years at Oklahoma (1986-1988) were very successful; and, in the 1988 NBA Draft, he was a First Round pick (12th Overall) of the then Washington Bullets. Showing great durability, Harvey played professionally for eleven years in the NBA with the Washington Bullets/Wizards, the Portland Trail Blazers, and the Philadelphia 76ers (brother, Horace Grant, meanwhile was playing for the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers). In 1991, Harvey Grant was runner-up for the 1991 NBA Most Improved Player Award (which was won by Orlando’s Scott Skiles). His career NBA statistics are: Points 7,781 (9.9ppg), Rebounds 3,436 (4.4rpg), and Assists 1,219 (1.6apg)
Harvey Grant is currently the Head Coach of the Virginia Storm professional basketball team in the American Basketball Association (ABA), as well as the founding owner of G4 Beverages. He has launched a very important mineral-supplement product with his “Kleer Alkaline Water;” and, is fulfilling a dream by providing healthy water to the youth in his community as well as around the country. He is very aware of the importance of good health; and, of educating youth and adults on the importance of quality nutrients, as opposed to the omnipresent “junk food” and sodas and alcoholic beverages. Along with G4 Beverages, Harvey has partnered with the Virginia Storm Basketball Organization by coaching the Virginia Storm pro team and providing his knowledge and experience on and off the court in order to help the players improve their basketball skills, always working toward their dreams of playing in the NBA. Harvey also helps the VSB Organization by hosting basketball camps and clinics for youth in which he stresses the importance of education and professionalism.
Harvey Grant is a devoted father of five children: four boys and one girl; and, a grandfather of one. Harvey’s son, Jerai, who played college basketball for Clemson University, has since played in the professional leagues in Australia, Italy, Israel, Latvia and currently Lithuania. Another son, Jerian, played for the University of Notre Dame and was selected by the New York Knicks in the 1st round of the 2015 NBA Draft. Another son, Jerami, played for Syracuse University before being drafted 39th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2014 NBA draft. Jerian currently plays for the Chicago Bulls; and, Jerami currently plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
