As the Ambassador for the 91st Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival®, Dot Kelly will appear at nearly all Festival events. She won the title of Miss Apple Blossom in October of 2017; and, she will represent Winchester at the Miss Virginia pageant (a preliminary to the Miss America Scholarship Program) in Lynchburg on June 23rd. She is the 21-year-old daughter of Don and Suk Kelly of Hampton, Virginia, and a junior at Shenandoah University, where she is a Dean’s List student. Dot graduated with highest honors and an advanced diploma from Kecoughtan High School in Hampton, where she earned a four-year academic letter and was a National Honor Society member. She has studied abroad in France, Greece and Sweden.
Dot has volunteered yearly for Operation Smile, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and the Children’s Miracle Network. She will obtain a BFA in Dance from Shenandoah University and plans to pursue her MFA or Doctorate in Dance/Professional Dancer and Choreography. Dot’s platform for Miss Virginia is “#ACTout: Advocating Cultural Diversity Awareness.” As a Korean-American, she lives her platform every day and promotes cultural diversity awareness education by actively speaking in schools, while working with educators on the local and state levels. Dot created a three-step “ACT” plan that encourages audiences to: be Aware and open minded; Combat generalizations and biases; and, Take a stand! During her reign she will continue to make multiple public appearances, as well as to champion the Children’s Miracle Network, the official charity of the Miss America Organization. Words of wisdom from Dot Kelly: “Your limitations are only in your mind!”
