For a brief time last fall, during the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival®’s annual planning stages, Festival Organizers were considering some cosmetic changes to the names of some of the Festival events, hoping to generate increased interest and excitement. For a brief time, the Malloy Auto Group ‘80s Dance Party had a draft title that indicated it might feature some music from slightly before the ‘80s, to slightly after the ‘80s; but, there was never any thought of changing the highly successful band that has headlined this equally successful dance party for several years now. However, as so often happens these days, some Internet confusion did ensue; and, there were rumors that the dance was not the same; and, that the band was not the same.
Please let the Festival lay this all to rest. Festival President, Barry Carper, is pleased to announce that the Malloy Auto Group ‘80s Dance Party is the same fantastic event you have enjoyed for years; and, New York City’s fabulous ‘80s tribute band, Rubix Kube, will return to headline the event. Rubix Kube always adds some new twists to their show to keep it fresh; but, the only complete change at the event will be the addition of a great new Title Sponsor: the Malloy Auto Group! The event will fill its usual slot in the Festival calendar, on Friday night, May 3rd, from 8:00pm to midnight, starting up as the Firefighters’ Parade is winding down across town in Old Town. In an interesting side note, Festival Insiders have stated that the amazing Sheetz Fireworks Display, presented by 92.5 WINC FM, can be seen from the Festival Food Court just outside of the ‘80s Party.
The Malloy Auto Group ‘80sDance Party is one of many excellent Festival events that will be held in the Tolley Dental Entertainment Zone, at the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center at Shenandoah University. The Wilkins Center is a beautifully-designed, spacious facility of approximately 70,000 square feet [three-and-a-half times the size of the Festival’s old Event Tent]; and, the Tolley Dental Entertainment Zone is, to state it simply, whatever part of the Wilkins Center the Festival is using for each of its events. The Wilkins Center is, primarily, an indoor athletic facility; and, Festival President, Barry Carper, has appointed a special committee this year to work on “personalizing” this space and enhancing its human scale for the Festival’s events. Festival Organizers plan to draw some elements of the Tolley Dental Entertainment Zone closer together; to make more use of the drop-down interior partitions; and, to expand on the themed decorations.
