The Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival® is very pleased to announce the official pairings of wine and tapas for the 2018 Schenck Foods Bloomtown Derby: A Wine and Food Experience! Much thought went into these selections, which were finalized at a “tasting” at the Fresco Kitchen attended by very lucky Festival Organizers.
Pairing #1: Wine: Lobetia Pink Bubbles, Spain. Clean and bright colored, with a pale rose tone. On the nose, you will find red cherries bouquet. On the palate, you will find creamy bubbles, full flavored, fresh, with good acidity. Tapa: This will be paired with a Roasted Shrimp, Corn & Goat Cheese Quesadilla.
Pairing #2: Wine: Fritz de Katz Riesling, Germany. Mosel, Germany. Mild apple and citrus aromas with a crisp, fruity, light/medium body and a tangy ripe peach and lemon sorbet finish. Tapa: This will be paired with Spicy Thai Meatballs. Note: The acidity and sweetness of the fruit flavors cut the spice.
Pairing #3: Wine: Slent Farms Chenin Blanc/Sauvignon Blanc, South Africa. Pale straw-colored white wine with a bouquet of tropical fruit, hay and flowers. Exuberant fruitiness balanced by pleasant acids. Dry, upbeat aftertaste. Tapa: Paired with Chicken Salad w/Pecans & Dried Cherries on Lettuce Leaf.
Pairing #4: Wine: Coppola Organic Red Sangria, Spain. Light cherry red tone, clean, bright and attractive with a slight effervescence of fine, steady bubbles. The aroma is perfumed with orange rind, citrus and red berry notes. It smells intensely of orange peel and strawberry. Tapa: Paired with Vegetarian Fajitas.
Pairing #5: Wine: Lobetia Tempranillo, Spain. This everyday Tempranillo is deep in build. Fruit forward, as well as peppery black-fruit flavors. Mild finish. Tapa: This will be paired with Marinated Flank Steak Bruschetta. Note: This low-tannin red works well with spice; but, is rich enough to hold up to steak.
Pairing #6: Wine: Amore Frutti Strawberry Moscato, Moldova. A frizzante style strawberry Moscato. Sweet, soft strawberry flavors with a slight fizz on the palate. Dessert: This will be paired with Assorted Hand Rolled Chocolate Truffles. Note: Your wine should be as sweet as your chocolate!
