For many of us in the Land of Pink and Green, nothing says it is Festival Time like the sights, the sounds and the smells of the Washington Area Chevy Dealers Old Town Midway: the traffic-filled downtown streets blocked, and turned over to pedestrians; the game barkers endlessly calling out for players; and, the quintessential smells of cotton candy, corn dogs and funnel cakes. The Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival® has a simple message for all the tens of thousands of Bloom fans who come down into Old Town during that magical 48 hours each year: the Washington Area Chevy Dealers Old Town Midway is not just Piccadilly Street anymore! There is so much more “Behind the Banks!” Come down and see what we mean!
“Behind the Banks?” you may be asking. Yes, behind the banks at the intersection of Piccadilly Street and the Loudoun Street Walking Mall; behind the Bank of Clarke County, and the Wells Fargo Bank Old Town, and the Winchester Insurance Group Building. Since the days when the Old Town Midway first moved off of the Walking Mall, Festival Organizers have worked steadily to develop our entire area of opportunity, not just the Piccadilly Street corridor. The entire area is actually in the shape of a giant “H,” with Piccadilly Street creating the south leg, Fairfax Lane creating the north leg, and North Loudoun Street, between the two big banks, creating the crossbar of the “H.” The area “Behind the Banks” on North Loudoun Street, and across the bank parking lots to Fairfax Lane, is a more open area; and, it allows for more varied forms of entertainment.
The focal point of the area “Behind the Banks” is the Winchester Imaging “Music on the Midway,” which presents live musical entertainment on a performance stage behind the Wells Fargo Bank. All shows are free, and performances will run from 11:00am to 9:00pm, Friday 4/29, and Saturday 4/30. Featured bands include:

Slightly outside of the performance area is a grouping of Armed Forces Recruiting Displays: Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines. These are always popular free areas for the Old Town Midway; and, the recruiters have told Festival Organizers that Festival Time is one of their most successful recruiting opportunities each year. A little further out “Behind the Banks” is a greatly enhanced and expanded “Kid Zone on the Midway.” Designed for ages 5 to 12 years old, this area will be located behind the Bank of Clarke County, and is free to the public. The Kid Zone will feature an inflatable obstacle course; a moon bounce; a Magic Show with giveaways; an inflatable slide; kid-related vendors with games, foods and ices; and, a fun lights display.
The Midway, which opens at 10:00am each day, features nearly 100 vendors from over twenty states; and, is sponsored by Washington Area Chevy Dealers; Winchester Imaging; the Departments of the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, U.S. Marines and U.S. Air Force; L.L. Bean; Wyndham Vacation Resorts; and, the Lasik Vision Institute.
