The 2014 Anthony’s Pizza Weekend-in-the-Park event might well be looked at as the “Best of Weekend-in-the-Park.” In recent years, several of the component events of Weekend-in-the-Park have moved from location to location, and have varied in size and scope. In 2014, Festival Organizers decided to go back over the past history of the event and choose the most successful version of each event component and put them all together in what might be called the “Best of Weekend-in-the-Park.” It should also be noted that the general layout of the event will be simpler and somewhat more compact this year. The days of moving in and out of ticketed areas as an attendee moves around Jim Barnett Park are gone. All the components of the entire Weekend-in-the-Park event have been consolidated inside of one perimeter which will be accessed by several easy-to-use gates. The ticket price is still $5.00 per adult per day; and, that accesses all areas of the event. Adults may also purchase a beautiful keepsake badge for $7.50 for two-day access. This badge is a recreation of the collectible, themed badges of the past. As always, children under 12 are free for all event activities.
Safelite Auto Glass Cruise-In Car Show: One of the largest displays of classic and exotic autos held in the area, this component and its vendors and displays returns to its historic location inside the admission gates on the west end of “the big field” behind the War Memorial Building. A record number of participants are expected.
Subaru of Winchester Shenandoah Valley Boat and RV Show: While this component may be scaled down somewhat this year, it will return to “the big field” behind the War Memorial Building with exciting new displays.
Monkey Joe’s Kids’ Fun Day: The classic kids’ event of the Bloom, Fun Day returns to its traditional location on the east end of “the big field” behind the War Memorial Building. Plans are underway to expand Fun Day by bringing in more activities and, hopefully, a special appearance by a well-known, child-oriented character. It should be noted that this Weekend-in-the-Park component is now inside of the admission gates.
The Dr. Lori Show: Back by popular demand, Dr. Lori returns to Weekend-in-the-Park in 2014 with her wildly entertaining combination of comedy and an antiques appraisal show. Dr. Lori will return to the War Memorial Building on Sunday afternoon. Stay tuned for additional Media Releases on her local appearances.
Weekend-in-the-Park Midway: Back by popular demand is the BIG Weekend-in-the-Park Midway. The Midway returns to its traditional central location on the parking lot of the War Memorial Building; and, at this time, over 50 units of food and game vendors are expected to be set up all afternoon on Sunday, May 4th.
The Robbie Limon Band: Back by popular demand is top-flight live entertainment at Weekend-in-the-Park. This year, along War Memorial Drive, as it begins to wind through the Craft Area, a performance area will be set up featuring a 3-hour concert by wildly popular local songster, Robbie Limon, and his band.
Wells Fargo Craft Show: The move that started this whole process of change: back by popular demand, the Craft Show will return to its traditional location, meandering pleasantly out along the park trails, over the gentle swales and under the nodding trees. As promised, Weekend-in-the-Park has moved itself back to the future!
