A variety of talent took to the stage for the third and final round of auditions for the annual 2016 Car Credit Nation Apple Blossom’s Got Talent! Presented by PMSI (Pest Management Services Inc.) the contest was held Wednesday March 9 at the Bright Box Theater in Winchester.
Ten winners were selected from a field of 30 contestants. They include Black Stone Jazz Combo (Matthew Black, Jacob Pembelton, Ryan Cerrone, Jacob Carpenter); Matthew Pfeiffer; Amy Andrews; Scott Burkhart; Roshawn Williams; 3 Piece Irish Dance (James O’Reilly, Joseph O’Reilly, Finnbarr O’Reilly); Madalyn Martin; Victor Furtado; Marco Mendoza, and Chauncey Baylor. Theresa Gaines, chair of the event which is part of the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival®, to be held April 22 to May 1, said the auditions have gone extremely well with enthusiastic competitors applying to compete.
Performing for a capacity crowd, the contestants were judged by a panel made up of Lars Henriksen, a bass player and member of a blues band; Mario Orsini, illusionist who has judged this contest in past years, and Gwen Pangle, a singer who has performed in many theatrical productions. Master of ceremonies was Chuck Atkinson.
Thirty contestants who won at the three auditions will compete in the semi-finals April 6, and winners from that event will compete in the finals April 27. The finals will be held during the 89th festival whose theme is Unforgettable! All contests will begin at 7 p.m. at the Bright Box in downtown Winchester. Prizes awarded at the final event include first place, $5,000; second place, $1,500, and third place, $500.
Audience tickets for the semi-finals and finals are available at the festival office located at 135 N Cameron St. No phone orders will be accepted. Ticket prices for the semi-finals are $10 for upstairs seating and $20 for downstairs seating.
