In mid-April, if you exit from Route 37 west of Winchester and drive to the address officially known as 1755 North Sector Court, behind a single, empty, rural mail box, you will find nothing but an equally empty asphalt parking lot. It is a beautiful location; up on a hill with beautiful views in all directions; with landscaped parking lots; near the Pharmacy School on the extensive campus of the Valley Health Winchester Medical Center; but, at 1755 North Sector Court, there is simply nothing there. However, in the incredibly short span of two weeks, on that same spot, the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival® will construct a 20,000-square-foot temporary “civic center,” complete with: stage, professional lighting and sound, dance floor, overhead viewing screen, kitchen facilities, storage buildings, restrooms, food court, display areas, hospitality areas, retail sales areas, bar and refreshment areas, decorated entry foyer, et cetera. An all-star list of major Festival events is then held at this location, including: the Valley Health Business-at-the-Bloom Luncheon; the Grove’s Harley-Davidson Thursday Night Live 70s Dance Party; the Ferguson Bloomers’ Luncheon; the Jim Stutzman Chevrolet-Cadillac Rock-the-80s Dance Party; the Ram Country Music Dance Party; and, the Shenandoah Ford Bluegrass Festival. Please be aware that the Festival’s major event center, thanks to our Festival friend Dr. Ben Tolley, is now the Tolley Dental Tent; and, it will be referred to as such in all subsequent Festival literature.
