“Who knew?” has been the most common comment from Festival Organizers regarding the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival®’s, newest event: the Car Credit Nation “Apple Blossom’s Got Talent!” contest. Plagued by terrible weather in January, the original date for the First Audition came and went; and, as a “new” date in February approached, there were only a handful of applications. Then, social media discovered the event; and, almost overnight, the application total jumped from 4 to 27. The day of the weather-delayed First Audition, February 13th, the area was hit by another snowstorm and another delay to Thursday, February 20th, was necessitated. Finally, on that night, packed onto the first floor of the fabulous Bright Box Theater in Old Town, a large and enthusiastic crowd celebrated the beginning of a new Festival tradition.
The Second Audition, on March 13th, swept right in on the heels of the First Audition; and, this time Event Organizers had 53 contestants to sift through to choose 30 for the Second Audition. To accommodate the overflow crowds, the Festival and the Bright Box Theater Staff worked together to provide closed circuit television coverage to the second floor of the theater; and, the event was more open, and more relaxed, but, if possible, even more exciting.
These are the most common questions besieging Festival Organizers at this time:
How is the Third Audition shaping up?
In response to an unprecedented number of applications, the application process for the Third [and final] Audition, to be held on Thursday, April 3rd, had to be cut off at 12noon on Friday, March 21st; and, a special Sunday afternoon “marathon” session has been scheduled to pick the 30 best contestants for this event.
Can I get passes to attend the Third Audition?
Not at this time. In response to overwhelming demand, the box office at the Bright Box Theatre has been asked by Festival Organizers to temporarily stop issuing public passes to this event so that family members of the performers can attend. Any remaining passes will be released to the public on March 26th.
How are the Semi-Finals shaping up?
On the night of Thursday, April 17th, the 30 Audition Winners will meet and 12 Finalists will be chosen to move on to the Finals at the Sprint Tent on Saturday night, May 3rd. Anticipation of the Semi-Final event has been so extreme that Festival Organizers are considering a suggestion to partner with Old Town Winchester on the erection of a screen on the Old Courthouse lawn so that the public can view the proceedings inside the “sold-out” Theater.
Can I get passes to the Semi-Finals?
Once more, in response to unprecedented demand, distribution of the remaining passes to the Semi-Finals has been frozen. Any available passes will be released to the public on April 9th. How can I follow my favorites? The Festival’s Webmaster and its Publicity Department will continue to follow the “Road to the Finals” in all regular and social media outlets. As we approach the Finals, more and more detailed profiles of the contestants will be offered. Follow the thebloom.com and the Festival’s Facebook pagefor more information on your favorites.
Will the Finals just be the contestants?
No! There will be much more offered. Celebrity plans can rarely be divulged and are notoriously unreliable until 30 days before the Festival; but, there are plans for Celebrity Judges of a quality that would qualify them for appearances in the Chevrolet Grand Feature Parade; there are plans for a Special Celebrity appearance and concert during the Finals; and, there are, of course, plans to try to bring any of the Official Celebrity Marshals who are still in town by the event that night. The Festival intends to live up to its plan to create Las Vegas in Winchester: red carpet, velvet ropes, searchlights, celebrities and all!
