Apple Blossom’s Got Talent!
Festival Organizers have worked hard in recent years to keep excitement levels up and the good times rolling after the end of our signature event: the Grand Feature Parade. The “post-parade” slot at the Sprint Festival Event Tent has been a tough spot to fill in recent years; but, for 2014, Organizers feel that the solution has been found! On Saturday night, May 3rd, 2014, the Festival will be holding the finals of a season-long talent search along with the usual good-time excitement of a Festival Party. Always striving to do everything in the biggest possible way, the Festival will present the champion of this talent search with a cash prize of $5,000.00 plus other gifts and perks [other prizes will also be awarded]. There will be three to four try-outs, probably one a month in January, February, March and April building up to the finals in May with around 15 finalists. Exact times, dates, locations, rules, entry forms and fees, will be announced in future media releases and at the Festival’s web site: www.thebloom.com. Further information will be available at SABF Headquarters, 540-662-3863; and, from Event Chair, Theresa Gaines.
Oldies Rock ‘n’ Roll Dance!
Festival Organizers also continue to try to address the crush of events held on Festival Parade Weekend, the second weekend of the 10-day long Festival. In line with this, the very popular Sunrise Medical Laboratories Oldies Rock ‘n’ Roll Dance will move from its traditional spot on the Saturday night of Festival Parade Weekend, to a new spot on the Saturday night of Wine Festival Weekend: Saturday, April 26th, 2014. The location will remain the same: the ballroom at the Winchester Moose Lodge on East Cork Street in Old Town; but, the new event times will be 7:00pm to 11:00pm. A fantastic new band has also been lined up to inaugurate the new proceedings: Rick K. and the Allnighters, a band with a national reputation on the Oldies Circuit. For further information, contact Event Chair, Roger Ernst.
The 80s Dance Party!
This was a brand-new event in 2013. Festival Organizers had hoped to get a nice crowd in the 600-800 range and were bowled over when the event sold well over 1,200 tickets. In an effort to keep that ball rolling; and, to reward the Bloom Nation for its support of this great new event, Organizers have hired a new band for the 2014 Jim Stutzman Chevrolet-Cadillac ’80s Dance Party: RUBIX KUBE! This is a super-hot, 80s tribute band that plays in the New York City area: and, from their promo material, is a favorite of celebs such as Kelly Ripa. If event fans can stand it, this event will be kicked up another notch or two in 2014!
There are changes in the air for this iconic Festival event! Long-time Festival fans will probably see a “Back to the Future” theme at the 2014 Anthony’s Pizza Weekend-in-the-Park! Plans are still being worked on; but, they should include moving the Arts and Crafts Show back to its old location along the tree-shaded road through the Park; expanding the WIP Midway and putting it back in its old location on the parking lot; expanding the Boat and RV Show and bringing this new event and the Car Show back closer to the center of the event; and, continuing to support the Monkey Joe’s Funday-in-the-Park for kids. The events will be more centralized, all within an all-encompassing perimeter, with simplified gating to create easier access.
